LOL! That’s good, too.
Canon
(a bit of a story idea)
The defendant was brought into the dark courtroom and dragged to the seat in the circle of bright light. There was also a light behind the judges, meaning she would only see their shadows while the rest of the room was completely dark.
“You have been accused of blasphemy” the judge said
“What does that even mean?” she said “It’s vague”
“It is said that you are a denier” the judge “That you deny that the Great Hoyler created this world, that we are being punished with storms, floods, quakes and droughts all over the world. Hoyler is angry and we must appease him by destroying all doubt”
“That is crazy. There is no evidence for it” she retorted
“You deny it still. This is blasphemy”
“I can’t have my own opinion?” she asked
“No, the law is quite clear. There shall be no discretion to stray from canon”
“Canon? What does that mean?”
“It means everyone must believe the way the canon law has been written”
“What if canon is a lie? What if it is wrong?” she asked
“It is never wrong” the judge said
“What is canon said you were a woman?” she asked
“Then I am” the judge said
“So, canon trumps reality?” she asked
“Yes, of course” the judge said “Exactly”
