When I was in, Air Force ranks did not come easily. My brother spent a lot of time in the Air Force, and then moved over to the Army and made Warrant.

I was an ossifier in the USAF from 1982-1986. But I wasn’t rated (no job on an airplane). That really limits the promotional opportunities.

My oldest brother was a Sergent in the AF, and he was a DI. From personal experience, I know he was a nasty man, but he whipped the pfcs. straight into shape. He fought in Korea 1950-1954.
