I just re-joined FR and I would like to post to my local NC state board but I am not able to. How do I get the ability to do that?
Koala oil?
It would have been nice if he’d changed the oil.
I can see this used as a defense down under for every teen who tries to borrow the family car.
“I didn’t do it, it was the koala”
LOL!
If he left droppings on the seat, it would be believable.
Her second-grade class is studying abbreviations (bear in mind that the class is omni-cultural, and is somewhere between hepta- and nonalingual).
One of the multiple-choice questions was:
Which of these is an abbreviation for "foot?"
(a) Dr.
(b) ft.
(c) Mrs.
(d) in.
One student answered '(c)'. When I showed it to the Marvelous Spousal Unit, she shook her head and said "Ethan" (Ethan is not Rory's real name, and Rory is not the real name of the culprit). She was correct in her guess; it was Ethan/Rory/Unmentioned. I commended her and said, 'it's that obvious, eh?"
She said, "no, he was just my first guess. I could give you the names of two other students who'd be likely to miss that question. They don't get any help at home. You see what I'm working with?"
For the rest of the day, she kept murmuring "Foot. I would at least have chosen an abbreviation that began with an 'f.'"
Curiouser and curiouser.
Meanwhile, I discovered 'Organic Mexican' coffee beans at the local farmers' market when they were out of something esoteric that Ichi had requested. Darksheare will recoil, but it's great when you add a little Silk Dark Chocolate Almond milk to it.
Meanwhile, it's a great day for Scouting.
Absolutely! An icy rain is falling steadily.
As a teacher, it annoys me that we have to spend so much time and effort on abbreviations and contractions, which are completely unnecessary. Just write everything out completely. "Doctor Jones is not the one who lives on Maple Street.
Then you would be remiss in preparing your students for a world of textually concise communications like Lots Of Love.
They will learn that on their own. Of course, if you do not teach them the correct construction of contractions, they will make up all sorts of garble.
I hope everyone is back tomorrow!
Amen, sister! We have had intermittent snow/sleet/hail/rain/high winds/bright sun and super cold temperatures. Global warming - pshaw!!!
Had to go “rescue” a shredded tarp from the house. Needless to say when Cal Ranch graciously replaced it under warranty (it was supposed to withstand winds around 150 MPH) - weather service said our winds were at 6 MPH topping at 30 MPH; later winds at 35 MPH with gusts up to 60 MPH.... bull—————! Now if I could figure out how to take the pics I posted on FB and post them here y’all could see for yourselves what we are dealing with here.
Good morning! Isn’t that sort of typical weather for where you live?
Fortunately, the repeated forecasts of Terrible Winter Weather at my house have proved to be exaggerated. Weather Channel says it will be 61 this afternoon.
It feels balmy and pleasant here at my house too. The temperature seems to be above freezing at the moment.
We had ice and freezing last night. This morning we have fog and presumably, melting.
Actually, I'd say the Mirror Spock was worse than evil. He was weak. The logic that our Kirk shared with him on actively fighting the Empire was there all along, but Spock was willing to go with the flow as long as it worked for him. He didn't stop to think about it, so when the crew arrived from our universe he wasn't standing athwart history yelling, "Stop." He was as much a part of the Empire as Mirror Kirk was.
Which makes me think about whether I am doing enough to stop our own growing Evil Empire. That needs some serious pondering.
Sufficient snow and crud to add 30 minutes to my commute and ruin my chances to go to the gym. But a forecast high of 38 today followed by a low of 18.
Yep, we should have very clear skies this afternoon.
More snow in the offing tomorrow, though.
We have fog, too.
He wasn't weak, or even indecisive. He was simply waiting out the inevitable, having no certainty that anything he did would have a lasting effect. It's the same thing that paralyzes all of us to some extent.
What Kirk and his crew urged Mirror-Spock to do was to precipitate change, and to take part in it, because he could make a difference sooner. And that that logical contribution would be the ethical thing to do.
Mirror-Spock made no commitment, saying only that he would consider it. As an added inducement, Kirk offered his access to secret technology that would make Mirror-Spock more intimidating.
"Trouble rather the tiger in his lair than the sage among his books. For to you kingdoms and their armies are things mighty and enduring, but to him they are but toys of the moment, to be overturned with the flick of a finger."
― Gordon R. Dickson, Tactics of Mistake
But note that nothing is said in this as to what such a scholar's motivations might be.
Therein lies the evil. Man is not a thing. A nuclear bomb is neither good nor evil but can be used for either. A man (or a Vulcan) is responsile. Someone like Spock who could comprehend, and could even calculate the odds, had a responsibility to decide.
I know not everyone is a Christian, but Jesus said that he would rather someone be hot or cold than luke warm. Mirror Spock was luke warm - someone who could figure out the right thing to do, but didn't bother until someone pressed him to think.
Man is the ultimate thing.
Out of the ashes and mud of reality, infused with a spiritual essence, man is a thing of mud-pie functionality and utility. In other words, he is utterly and unutterably useless until he makes something significant of himself.
Being a mud-pie, he can shape himself into whatever he chooses to become, because the essence of his endowment is to be a maker, like his Creator.
Even a "self-made man" cannot take all the credit, because God provided the dirt.
