Sure..except they’d already subbed in and the Pats responded, and they’d already called a timeout. Trying to then put your jumbo package in likely results in a 5 yard penalty from delay of game.

The Pats approach to their defensive scheme was a huge gamble. Playing tight man to man coverage for most of the game can shut a QB down BUT just a single mistake can result in a very quick score by the opposing team.

It happened twice but the Pats kept it up and the scheme worked.

Maybe they’ll just play a computer sim as Madden Football correctly picked NE to win, 28-24

I didn’t hear that Bevell interview. But piss on him if he threw Lockett under the bus. That was a great play by the Pat’s guy. Pete said it was to be a run, but once he saw the match-up he called in to throw the ball as a “throw-away” play and then run it on third down. Not sure why a ball right in the middle with all sorts of players crowded around is called a “throw-away”.

They are talking about the year that a communist-Brit jumped out of the stands at the Olympics and kept giving the Communist-Soviet team chances to try to score over and over again until they were able to score and ‘defeat’ the USA in basketball for the first time in history. The communist-Brit was a an Olympic official but was not authorized to jump out of the stands and control the outcome of the game.

They should have put in the Jumbo package in the first place, avoiding any subs as they were coming off a Time Out and you can’t call back to back TO’s.

They also often didn’t have normal free safety support because the whole defense was adjusted to contain Lynch and Wilson. McCourty was often much shallower than he typically is.

I agree,,,,,it was an “Affirmative Action” play on Pete’s part...had that pass succeeded Wilson would have been the MVP and the greatest thing since sliced bread...and Carrol would have been a genius.

Yep me and the missus kept noticing that, we kept saying if someone gets a catch behind his defender he is "gone"...

Regardless, I’ll defer to the former HOF players on the NFL Channel (Faulk, Sanders, Irvin) and the numerous former and current NFL players tweeting what a stupid, boneheaded call that was by Carroll.

As I recall, Carroll had Reggie Bush on the bench on a critical 4th and 1 in the 2005 Rose Bowl which they didn’t convert and ended up losing by 3 pts., so this isn’t a first for him.

Right. That’s why I mentioned they’d already done it.

As for the jumbo package, Lynch was 1 of 5 during the season from the one, and while Lynch had success at times, he was also stuffed a number of times in this game. This play was a pass play against a run defense, picking on the rookie.

Oops! And the USA team did not attend the medal ceremony. They all refused to accept the silver medal. The silver medals still sit in a safe in Germany. Once a year German officials contact the USA players to give to them the medals and they still refuse to accept the silver medals.

I could have given a poop who won this game and the Hawks gave it away instead of the Pats winning it (absolutely the worst play call I have ever seen in FB) but I do have just one question.

The helmet to helmet hit the Pats defender put on the intended receiver seemed pretty severe. The rule says intended or unintended use of the helmet draws a penalty. He drove his helmet right into the receivers helmet pushing him away from the ball. Look at it again on the net and give my your opinion.

She didn’t “screech”. In fact she has a lovely voice, but you’d never know that because you’ll let your musical prejudice against rock and roll get in the way. Translation, you’re the wrong generation, and obviously rock and roll isn’t your cup of tea. Each to their own.

that’s a college rule.. in the NFL you can have a knee down and still be able to advance it’s only dead if a guy touches you and a knee goes down

You know what was so good about this game?

It was a true contest between the #1 and #2 teams in the NFL this season. Not between #1 and #3 or #2 and #4, but #1 and #2, and both of those teams played well enough to win.

In fact both teams played well enough to win that to compare the individual efforts of the two teams to each other results in a difference no greater than the width of a gnat’s pubic hair.

I have never seen a contest that close, ever.

It was just f***ing brilliant to watch that tonight!

Why not hand it off to Lynch? Second and goal from the 1 yard line...with two timeouts remaining for Seattle. You run it up the gut.

Could it be that it was rigged. If you watch the replay, the defensive player knew it was coming. He was ready to pick it off.
