Hiya folks, hope everyone is having a good Sunday and enjoying the run up to the "game" (do you all have your football psi readers on hand??). So, I was watching an episode of "Through the Wormhole" (leaving politics out of it) and the opener for Season 5 Episode 10, Morgan Freeman proceeds to say that the Saudi's think it is the 15th century and Israel thinks it is the 58th. So, I post here because after some googling, I am looking for some solid links into understanding why these discrepancies (and yes, I understand it will be lots of reading and research) and I also wanted to see what other freepers thought about this subject of "time".
Take care all and enjoy the day!
Does anyone really now what time it is? Does anyone really care, about time?
It’s mental age, I think. Societally speaking.
If so, I can’t imagine why.
You’ll find that the Saudis are whacked out about more than just time.
That is the Biblical time of creation of man...and If Hildebeast is elected in 2016 the jig is up. :P
We’ve all got time enough to cry
Unfortunately, you cannot leave the politics out of it. Liberalism is weaved into the very nature of that series. My advice: Stop watching "Through the Wormhole". Instead get the DVD or the book "Cosmos" by Carl Sagan. That's the real deal, science-wise.
The Hebrew calendar is based on twelfth-century Rabbinic estimates for the year of creation - sunset on 6 October 3761 BC, according to our calendar.
Actually its 2768 ab urbe condita. The epoch used for both the Gregorian (Christian) and Hebrew calendars are somewhat more than a little speculative. Most historians agree that the Christian epoch is off by about five years. For instance, Herod is known to have died in 4 BC, and Jesus was born during his reign. (The Christian epoch was the Incarnation, nine months prior.) The longest continuous and most reliable current chronology is the Christian (Julian/Gregorian) calendar, and I’d go with that.
Aha..something I can go on here. My thanks for the post.
Good enough for me and 2.5 billion others...
Where there years before? Certainly, and millions, perhaps billions of them. The Lord made man in His image, which means we have a brain and think and explore, using Reason to explain the World and Universe around us. There is no reason or sense to be anti-science. Some scientists may be Atheists, but that doesn't make science anti-God.
I just hope I don’t wake up tomorrow to Sonny and Cher singing “I got you, Babe” at 6:00 AM.
Annnnd apparently I am done posting for the evening. Thank you for the link

Don’t forget the Chinese 4712.
Muslim calendar started when Mohammed migrated from Mecca to Medina apparently.
Can I suggest the year 1 started Jan. 20, 2009?
(OK, that was just a joke...)
