Hiya folks, hope everyone is having a good Sunday and enjoying the run up to the "game" (do you all have your football psi readers on hand??). So, I was watching an episode of "Through the Wormhole" (leaving politics out of it) and the opener for Season 5 Episode 10, Morgan Freeman proceeds to say that the Saudi's think it is the 15th century and Israel thinks it is the 58th. So, I post here because after some googling, I am looking for some solid links into understanding why these discrepancies (and yes, I understand it will be lots of reading and research) and I also wanted to see what other freepers thought about this subject of "time".
I’m sure you could find some others out there making that very suggestion!
You forgot to mention the Julian calendar!
Are you sure that's not year Zero? :-)
So what “year” is it anyway?
NFL Super Bowl XLIX ...
... ergo, this is the 49th year.
‘In the year 2525’........(Sorry, lame I know!!)
I believe that he Jews base their calendar of the creation of Adam, the first man.
From Adam to Abraham was 2000 years and from Abraham to Jesus was another 2000 years. The reason this is important for both Christians and Jews is the prophetic significance of the 6 days of creation.
While almost all of the English translations speak of “6 days” of creation, the word translated as “days” could also be translated as “epoch” which is an unspecific duration of time basically specifying a period when things were done in a specific way.
How does this all fit together with the “6 days of creation? it’s really very simple because the bible states that a thousand years is but a day to God in His reckoning and the “6 days” are considered a prophetic foretelling of how long the world has to wait from Adam the first man to Jesus, the second Adam and for Jesus to begin His 6th day (or millennial reign) of rest which lasts for 1000 years.
According to the Jewish calendar we are approaching the end of the 6 days and are approaching the 7th day of rest which actually is Jesus the Messiah’s millennial reign here on Earth.
The 7 days of creation are related to the 7 days of a week in which the 7th day also points to Jesus’ millennial reign.
The reason the 7th day is reserved as the Sabbath and it is to be observed and kept forever is because it also points to the Messiah’s Earthly reign on Earth on the 7th day.
Even though some groups try to make Sunday the day of rest and worship, it is not and it can never replace Saturday which is God’s appointed day or epoch of rest.
Sunday is the first day of the week and represents the first “day” or epoch of Creation while Saturday is the 7th day of the week and represents the “7th day” or “epoch” (1000 year Millennial reign) of Creation AKA the Day of rest.
The Sabbath is to be an eternal reminder of Christ’s reign both foretelling his second coming as well as an eternal reminder after His second coming for His millennial reign.
In so far as calendars are concerned, the Jewish system of dating is by far the most accurate since it has been maintained the longest and is based upon the “day that no one knows” which is the first day of the new year.
The Jewish way of determining the first day of the new year is a very specific and precise method that was mandated by God and is not based on mathematical formulas which have been devised as a substitute for the method God mandated.
Going on a mathematical formula instead of the Jewish observational method prevents us for accounting for changes in the rotation or path of the Earth as it travels around the Sun as well as changes in the paths of the various planets and other objects in Space which do change however slightly over time.
5775 - 2015 = 3760. Close enough for a believer, I guess.
Look again.
Depending on the liberal cause one holds near and dear, the year could be very different from what we observe now.
This year could be the year 11, as it was 11 years ago that homosexual marriage began in America.
Or the year 45, if enviro extremists want to count from the first earth day.
Or it could be the year 5, to those for whom life is complete based in passage of Obamacare.

Dunno but, today seems relevant. ...
