FULL TITLE: The children of Auschwitz: On the eve of the 70th anniversary of its liberation, Jews who appeared as youngsters in photograph taken at the concentration camp join those revisiting their past
Too bewildered and dehumanised to show any emotion, a dozen young faces peer out from a world beyond comprehension.
Witnesses to unfathomable depths of human savagery, these are among the last occupants of historys most infamous slaughterhouse.
To stand in the Arctic chill of Auschwitz today, it seems extraordinary that anyone survived what unfolded here.
Yet, astonishingly, most of the people in this photograph taken exactly 70 years ago today are still alive. Whats more, four of them including a victim of the abominable human vivisectionist, Dr Josef Mengele have returned to Auschwitz to mark the 70th anniversary of the day that Soviet troops liberated this place.

“..a candidate was required to show proof of an act of cruelty committed against the German people. so it’s not exactly fair to equate Germans with Nazism.”
You’re right, there must have been many Germans themselves who did not go along with Hitler and his army and were punished severely for it :( Haven’t heard about the acts of cruelty requirement. Never studied the Holocaust in depth, I must admit. Learned something new.
This looks like the final part of the excellent BBC series that I found before:

Thanks for the link Pelham. Harrowing stories. I really suggest you watch ‘’the gas chamber’’ scene , the scene with the actor John Gielgud as ‘’Dr. Jastrow’’ from ‘’War And Remembrance’’ It will really drive home the horror of the Holocaust.
Yes, about the most brutal thing I’ve ever seen.
But for me the image of the little girl still holding the flower after the gassing is what got to me the most. I’ll never forget that.
