I seem to recall Brokaw labeled the people who lived during the depression then went on to fight WWII and those that stayed behind and produced for the war effort as the Greatest Generation.

But let’s see if I have this straight.
Greatest Generation coined by Tom Brokaw = not ok
Silent Generation coined by Time magazine = ok.

Got it.

Silent generation is the accepted name for that generation of 1925-1945, greatest generation doesn’t mean anything, it includes people from several generations.
