If they didn’t change the article, then I can only conclude the physics professor is a moron.
Guy Lussacs Law is:
P1/T1 = P2/T2
Thus P1*T2/T1 = P2
If NE filled each ball to the minimum pressure at 70 degrees F, how much pressure loss would you get going down to 45 degrees F?
P2 = 12.5 psi * 280k / 295k = 11.9 psi.
Temperature in the formula is Kelvin, not Fahrenheit. The prof is full of deflated air. A 2 psi drop was not possible, New England cheated.
Thank you. And they DID change the article. I’m absolutely positive. You can see in my posting history where I cited it. I would never post a link and then pull some quote from somewhere else.
“The prof is full of deflated air. A 2 psi drop was not possible”
He said a drop of 1 to 2 pounds was within possibilities.
He said there was a lack of information available.
By my calcs a 25 degree difference would cause a 1 psi drop.
Someone has finally framed the quagmire in an appropriate science frame work. About time!
“P2 = 12.5 psi * 280k / 295k = 11.9 psi.”
P2 = (12.5 + 14.7) * 280 / 295 - 14.7 = 11.1
dP = 12.5 - 11.1 = 1.4 psig
