'Deflady Brady' uses 30-yard deep pass to secure 2nd TD to bump Colt offense off-balance [Vanity]

What is missing in the 'DeflateGate' NFL analysis?

Simple. How the Colts, once succumbing to a 14-0 deficit, had to THEN shift from running the ball 40% of the time to running it only less than 17% the rest of the first half upon falling behind by those scores.

It was, after all, "Deflady Brady's" deep pass down the left side of the field to S. Vereen (30 yards) to the Indy 17-yard line that set up the second Patriot score. One wonders what might have happened on that pass in the driving rain had the "underinflation" not been at play...or even if the Patriots would have risked tossing a deep ball if the Patriot offense was "in the know" about DeflateGate.

Up until that point in the game, the Colts had been successful on the ground versus the ninth-ranked NFL team versus the run...averaging 5 yards per carry. And one might expect even a passing-oriented team like the Colts to run at least 40% of the time given the weather conditions.

Take away "Deflady's Brady's" 30-yard late first quarter completion...

...and you likely have a 7-0 (vs. 14-0) game...

...and had that been the case, the Colts wouldn't have been passing the ball 10 out of 12 plays late in the first quarter -- into the second quarter -- in that driving rain.

A more balanced offense would have sufficed -- and could have sustained Colts' drives into making it a competitive game...at least much further into the game...

And, had the Colts only been down 10-7 heading into the second half, it wouldn't have fled its running game totally by passing it 10 of 11 plays in the third quarter.

And, for those who contend Brady did "better" with properly inflated footballs in the second half, he didn't pass on the brief 13-yard drive on New England's second-to-last score set up by an interception. So credit the defense and not the offense with that score.

And in the other second-half TD drives, "Deflady Brady" threw only one deep completed pass the entire second half (Edelman 22-yarder). Three other significant yard pass gains (Edelman, Gronkownski, and an eligible lineman scoring a TD) were on very short passes with most of the yardage coming after the catch (YAC). Beyond all that, the rest was "dunkville."

So..."Deflady Brady" doesn't now acknowledge he "felt" anything different about those first-half footballs? What? And pitchers in the Major Leagues can't tell the difference 'tween T-ball rubber balls and Major League baseballs, either?

This boils down to the media hating BB who holds them in contempt and are looking for any reason to ‘get’ him. He is the sports version to S Palin.

I dunno about 'the media'. Local media loves him I would imagine.

The Palin comment it interesting. Making up reasons to hate him. He was accused of cheating 2 weeks ago against the ravens - no good reason. This week he is getting blamed for letting the air out of the ball, again no evidence, no proof, just pure speculation. Surprised they haven't referred to the balls as 'unarmed youth footballs' - that would help people put it all into perspective. When it is all said and done, he will be known as a cheat, kinda like Reagan was an idiot.

Normally, conservatives would rally around the Patriots. Great team name. Built their own stadium without holding the municipality hostage with threats of relocating. The NFL has 32 teams, and there are 31 members of the NFL Coaches Association - Bill is the holdout.

Some have wished that they would keep him out of the hall of fame after he is done...to punish him I presume. I bet he doesn't care at all.

They probably would have lost because they probably wouldn’t have the second touchdown and the games momentum would have been significantly different.

If its no big deal why is there a rule for it? If its no big deal why did the Patriots cheat?

The fact is little things make a dramatic difference.

Maybe you need a team that doesn’t have to cheat to win.

I’m rooting against both of the teams. Let’s have another two teams for the SB this year. As someone said, Seahawks cheat during the game; Pats before. Cheats all. NFL is corrupt. Referees corrupt. Obama corrupt etc etc.

So I should root for Pete Carroll?

Rumors...now things being walked-back...but the judges, juries, and executioners are all over it. This is a great conservative website, but when it comes to sports, a lot of folks channel their inner-liberals...dang...

The Colts lost the game based on the control of the line of scrimmage. In the last four games the Colts played the Pats they had could not EVER stop the run. You can not throw it to TY Hilton on every down. The only thing that the Colts did well was contain Gronkowski for most of the game. The Colts should have never beat Denver. They are a one dimensional football team. Baltimore would have crushed the Colts if they had played.

Rumors? The NFL said it was done.

Cheaters cheat, its what they do. Forgiveness is a Christian value but until they repent there is no forgiveness.

Rumors? The NFL said it was done.

I have heard that he likes them with less air pressure, and that they had less air pressure. But I haven't seen the statement from the NFL that says 'Tom Brady let the air out of the footballs after they were checked by officials'.

” NFL that says ‘Tom Brady let the air out of the footballs after they were checked by officials’.”

Who cares WHO let the air out? Are you telling me Tom Brady can’t tell when a football is properly inflated?

Everyone who handled those footballs knew.

Why would deflated balls only benefit the Pats?
