Although it's hard to tell for sure from the video, it appeared to me that the cop was holding the door shut, and the passenger kept trying to open it. Since that follows the 'conversation' between the officer and passenger ("don't you get out") it would make more sense.
The convict was looking for trouble. All he had to do was sit tight and do what they said. He decided to reach around, and force his way outta the car.
He found the trouble he was looking for. More air for me to breathe.
