It’s possible that the contractor had a reason, considered consequences and decided that the demolition would be worthwhile. Many occurrences culminating in the deed are likely unknown to anyone physically far from the contractor and his “wife” of another surname. It’s unethical for a psych to issue an evaluation without a battery of tests, interviews and conclusive meeting with other psychs.
