(New temperature/old temperature)*old pressure = new pressure
Learned this in seventh grade.
So, this is now the 2nd time the Pats have been caught. When do they face repercussions?
I predict the Pats will beat the Seahawks by at least a TD.
Belichik is brilliant - and no team in the league would say no if he was available.
The rest of the league can go pound sand. They all do it to some extent - and Pagano’s whining will now have affect every NFL quarterback that has a preference for the feel of the ball.
2lbs of pressure is damn near meaningless. Helps the receivers maybe a little. Doesn’t help the QB as it slows the ball down faster.
Why not suspend him for a year. They did it to Sean Payton. Then let us see how good the Cheatriots really are. Or is Belicheck above all that nonsense?
This will make the man’s 9th Super Bowl. He’s the best coach in the league by a mile. The deflated footballs is a non-story. The Colts lost because the Patriots beat the hell out of them.
Doubt what you want, they weigh the balls. Check the rules...
They should fill them with nitrogen to get less pressure fluctuation when inflating them indoors (warm) and then taking them outside (cold)...but we are expecting sports fans to comprehend Boyles law, or Avagadro’s or Charles’ laws. That stuff doesn’t matter because the Patriots won by a huge margin and the poor Colts got beat badly...THATS what is important to sports fans.
Nitrogen has been proven to be less affected by temperature changes than just regular old compressed air. Racing teams have been using it for years. Now auto dealers are filling customer tires with it, too.
As an aside, when I helped a buddy in the pits with his open-wheeled sprint car (ran on asphalt, not dirt), we'd adjust the tire pressures right before the race. We'd also take pressure and surface temp readings as soon as he came back into the pits. There were always psi variances. We knew that the tires like a certain amount of pressure for optimum grip, so we started out with them a bit lower (been to long to recall actual numbers) than ideal, and as the car went round and round, they warmed up and went into that ideal range.
We could also tell if there were variations between races by checking end pressures/temps.
We eventually went to pressure-relieving valves that could be set at the maximum pressure you wanted to run, and would bleed air off over that pressure. We always had to add a bit of air prior to the next outing, simply because we knew they bled off during the race, and as they cooled between races, the pressure naturally dropped.
Several questions or thoughts:
1. Why don’t team managers check the balls they will be using before the game?? In my coaching days including a stint as an asst.college coach the managers checked everything.
2. If the balls were inflated in a warm room and then taken out into a cold stadium they would naturally loose some pressure,
3. What effect does a slightly deflated ball (which is the case)have on the game??
The Seahawks did a number on the Broncos last year. Belicheat has yet to beat the Giants in The Big Game. Seattle may or may not lose the the Cheatriots but I’m pulling for them. Can’t stand the Cheatriots winning another VL trophy. Let them join the Broncos as five time losers.
I said I "wondered" if it would make a difference. You act as if I'm arguing one way or the other. Maybe nobody accused the Colts of anything so their footballs weren't checked again. I do't know.
Obviously nothing was caught on the field. Don't even understand what set off the Colts radar on this.
What we don’t know, is whether or not the “officials” ALSO weighed the Colt’s balls. The article does not say...
We also don’t know if the gauge used was calibrated, or if more than one gauge was used.
But the whole thing is this - Liberals despise success, be it The Patriots, Walmart or the US Military.
When the NY Yankees win 2 championships in a row, there are always calls to break up the team. “They always win. It’s not fair....”, is the whine from the MSM
So the next step the Liberals always take, is to create, at least, the “appearance of impropriety”.
For the last 15 years, the Patriots have been a most succesful team. We must not buy into the Liberal hatred of success.
I guess there’s no reason to fill auto tires with nitrogen then.../s
To answer the question: “Stability of pressure in varying climates”. Just my take on it. They could even use their own ratio with other noble gases to detect tampering...if we’re now nitpicking on ball pressure in a multi-billion dollar so-called ‘sport’...
I’ve seen the reports that both teams used the same balls but that aside, this is unimportant on a national level. Within a week I’m sure there will be talk of another useless congressional investigation on cheating in sports. That is much easier than addressing the destruction of the Constitution and much more interesting to the masses.
The american people pay more attention to movie stars, celebrities, and sports than they do the state of their country. 50% of the country are morons and most of the other 50% are inattentive, uninformed and have no focus on the problems at hand because they spend their time trying to take their time away from the problems at hand. Those problems aren’t going away and they won’t solve themselves. Everyone is focusing on the trivial and no real attention is given to the real problems. Yes indeed, the masses are asses.
Games and bread, the same tools used by the Roman emperors to divert attention from the dictatorship that ruled their lives.
If the kenyan opened concentration camps to incarcerate his enemies few would take any real action to make it right because it might disrupt their leisure activities or take time away from their personal pursuits.
There is never a time that a stinking sports team cheating should ever take attention away from the slow death our Republic is experiencing under the National Socialist Democrat Party and the RINO enablers.
Wow, I thought the balls weighed 12 1/2 lbs, like a medicine ball. /s
why do you say two thirds of the gas when they were only one sixth under pressure?
Russell Wilson graduated from NC State. He did not graduate from Wisconsin. He graduated in three years from NC State. He had one year of eligibility left and went to Wisconsin for a year to get a higher draft number. I also like Russell Wilson but when he runs around telling people he’s a “badger” like he does at the start of games he is being disingenuous. He set all kinds of records at NC State but for some reason is ashamed to be associated with the school. He did not graduate from Wisconsin. When he’s introduced he says “Go Badgers”. What a crock.
Exactly : pv=nrt
Now,did the weight change on any balls? (Wet after play)
How did the colt balls react? Were they all the same weight and pressure before and after?
Seattle is the epicenter of liberalism in the NW. Pete Carroll is a big time Obama supporter. Other than Russell Wilson his players have no class. Wilson is always gracious in interviews and conducts himself like a professional. The others act like what they are, thugs, who win or lose act mad when being interviewed. They are also the most penalized team in the league year after year because they will do anything to win a game, whether legal or illegal.
