The North Miami Beach Police Department is denying accusations of racial profiling for using mug shots of black men during target practice for their snipers, NBC South Florida reports.
"Our policies were not violated," Chief J. Scott Dennis said. "There is no discipline forthcoming from the individuals who were involved with this."
When a National Guard unit arrived at a Medley, Florida, shooting range for its annual weapons qualifications training, one of its members was shocked to see that five bullet-riddled mug shots of black men left behind included her brother, from his arrest 15 years earlier in connection to a drag race that left two people dead.
The North Miami Beach Police Department snipers uses the same shooting range as the Guardsmen.
National Guard Sgt. Valerie Deant got very upset and phoned her brother, Woody Deant, to tell him he was being used for police target practice.

Nice find.
Sounds to me like the department was cleaning out old files and decided to recycle/reuse photos as targets. Seems like a good green policy to me. That of course assumes they worked out the range/scale issues if the prints were not life sized.
If Woody Deant actually had a bullet hole in his eye (instead of in the eye of his picture, which is not the same thing in any mind advanced beyond primitive concepts), would he be called No-Eye Deant?
Good point. They were just trying to reduce their carbon footprint.
I wish I had so little to worry about, don’t you? Cops shooting at lifeless zerox paper is cause for alarm? WOW! The whole world has gone crazy!
It’s like Blood of Tyrants said, they think theres some free $$ in it. eric holder to investigate in 3,2,1.....
My thought, exactly!
See multiculturalism is alive and well. What are these people complaining about?
I considered grabbing that pic and sticking a pair of jug ears on it. Then I reconsidered, and decided to just laugh at the mental image instead. Bet it’d sell big, though!
That’s what I was looking for.
Exactly! Follow the money!
The family contacted a lawyer? $$$$ on their minds!
What the story doesn’t explain up front is that the actual racial make-up of the Miami police force is multi-culti.

It helps with "facial recognition skills?" Smells like total BS to me. "Black male, fire, white male, Hispanic male, hold your fire." Regardless , of whether this amounts to racial profiling, it does amount to poor taste and judgment when there are so many alternative training tools that are widely available to serve the same purpose. Indeed, the police officers could have used their own photos for target practice.
That’s racist!
Many states have strict "right to privacy laws" that prohibit a person from using another person's image for commercial or business purposes without consent.
I am sure the professional racists out there would have no problems with that.
A recent study showed that police will hesitate more at shooting black men than whites or asians. Don’t know, maybe that is why they were using the pics.
