Nahh, I'm a wheel gun guy for personal carry. I generally carry .357 or If it's my .357 snub nose I generally load with .38 +p rounds. I don't want to come of as too snarky about .380s - they are better than nothing, women are not as intimidated by them and therfore are more confident using them and, as you note, at close range they can generally do enough damage to save your life if you shoot first, hit the target and he doesn't return fire, (a big "if")
In this case whatever she used, even if it was a .22, it was "big enough".
My suggestion would be to get one gun, a snubby is fine, and carry only that one. Practice only with one. Summer or winter, beach or ski resort the same one always. This will make you both faster and more proficient with that one.
A hit with any gun that comes 0.1 to 0.2 seconds faster than a .357 is a much better deal to me.
