He breaks the cardinal rule of Idol: Sings a Stevie Wonder song. "In the City". Pretty good.
Keith : You're a powerhouse singer. Really good stuff.
Jlo : When you're with your instruments you're (more comfortable) Everything you choose always gets the audience going. Everybody wanted to clap with you. Really good start to the show.
Harry : This is really the big leagues now. Nice solo. (nitpicks about "finding the pocket")

The first theme is Judges' Hometown, where the idols can pick songs featuring Nashville (Keith), NYC (Jlo) or New Orleans (Harry).
Jax picks Alicia Keys "New York". It's okay, but she's been better.
Jlo : You didn't seem like if you knew if you were done. You understand that you can win this competition. Show all the colors of the voice. Was this the best song. I don't know. I was ready to be with you. You have potential to take the whole thing. You have to be careful with the song thing.
Harry : A little mini showcase of what you do. Is your voice okay tonight? Are you hoarse? (she says yes) You just sang through it. And you killed it.
Keith : I loved the song for you. Strong artistic foundation. Your talent still pounds through.

Another New York City pick. Matchbox 20's "Bright Lights". Very good! Woke me up.
Harry : Exciting in here. Looking more comfortable. The most comfortable performance by far. Played the hell out of that song. You sound very similar to Rob Thomas. I really enjoyed it, man.
Keith : I can't remember the last time I saw someone with this incredible instinct. You go up and up.

As socially conscious as Idol has tried so hard to be in the past, I thought for sure they'd mention the riots.

As politically correct as Idol is, I suspected they might be very nervous that Rayvon is probably going home tonight. (Racists!)
