I can’t understand why you’re so devoted to the cause of showing how wrong Bennett was, when in fact he was on your side! He was responding to the study in the book Freakonomics that discussed the effects that abortion has had on this country. That study was based on real numbers, and the authors were able to show through statistical analysis that indeed, the prevalence of abortion had resulted in a reduced crime rate, as poor communities that have a much higher propensity for crime are most affected by abortion. Incidentally, the same study suggested that liberals were shooting themselves in the foot by their support of abortion, because the aborted babies would have been overwhelmingly liberal (since they were aborted by overwhelmingly liberal parents) and so liberals were, in effect, limiting their own numbers by aborting a large number of their future voters.
Bennett, in effect, was saying “so what?” to the results of that study. Like any true conservative, he believes in the POTENTIAL of any life, and doesn’t think that the statistical likelihood that aborting all of the babies in the highest crime group would result in a reduction in crime in the future (as has been shown to have occurred by the study results) outweighs the potential value that each one of those lives holds.
Why are you beating your head against the wall to make a bad guy out of one of your strongest allies?
“Freakonomics’” assertions on abortion are a pack of lies; it was written by a University of College professor and a New York Slimes columnist, so I do not see how it could have any credibility whatsoever.
Claiming to solve evils by using evil is a false claim, and Bennett said that in an unforced way. It does undermine his anti-abortion credentials, because one just does not say that. I’m not saying it’s unforgivable, mind you.
“University of College” = University of Chicago.
