Two female Mexican bullfighters, one a single mother competing for the first time in three years, have been gored in a bloody annual festival.
The two fighters, Karla de los Angeles and Lupita Lopez, were taking part in an all-women event called the "festejo de damas", alongside Hilda Tenorio. The event was staged at one of the world's biggest bullrings, Plaza Mexico.
De los Angeles, one of Mexico's best-known female bullfighters, was fighting for the first time since she withdrew from the sport in 2011 to look after her young daughter.
Before the fight, she had spoken of her dream of becoming a matador - a master bullfighter - and made national headlines by saying "being a mother is not an impediment".
During her fight, the 25-year-old was struck twice by the bull, known as Gamusino. The first injury came when the animal tossed the fighter over its head as she went for the killer blow.

Frankly, after watching it once, I found it quite boring, and really don't know what the attraction is.
The worldwide WarOnWimmin is unrelenting. All males everywhere are complicit.
is there ever a goring that isn’t vicious?
Love, Kid
Barbaric sport. An indication of their “superior culture”.
Screw with the bull, ya get the horns.
Bull 2, female matadors 0.
I always root for the bulls. Same with the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona.
Wasn’t vicious at all, just horny.
Back in the 1980's while vacationing in Acapulco, I went to a bullfight and had to walk out halfway thru the slow slaughter of the first bull
It's barbaric and should be banned.......
Thought I had heard that Mexico did ban it. At least the part about the bullfighters killing the bull. They did not ban the part about the bull could kill the bullfighters.
Has anyone ever been “politely” gored?
Anyone who tortures animals for fun or profit deserves the horns.
I hope they did.......
As a side note, remember when ABC's Wide World of Sports used to televise the bull fights in Spain? I remember watching them as a kid and not giving a thought to them.......
That was until I witnessed the one I mentioned above.....
By bulls of great culture?
And hope fills me for the bull
Well, the bull “HORNED” into the festival. (Bah Bah Boom!)
no pics? what the heck?
I wonder if it is as disgustingly cruel as when I was a kid.
Mexico was a cruel and brutal place, starving abused dogs in the villages, walls with broken glass embedded in the top, burglar bars on family’s windows, street hustlers, and street urchins, and paying men to watch your car while you entered a store 10 feet away, and then their proud national sport, the horrors of bullfighting.
Did they ever reduce the torture and cruelty in the arena spectacle?
“I always root for the bulls. Same with the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona.”
I always hope that the bulls in Pamplona score big. Always makes for a great Darwin Awards contestant.
