Little Amelia Pond thought Dr. Who was a tatterdemalion who landed in her backyard, hence referring to him as Raggedy Man.

No. We go out of town for the day on Christmas. Small family gathering, only 9 at dinner.

DH’s brother (stage4 prostate cancer) was admitted to the hospital Christmas Eve. I hear he is doing better. Pneumonia.

I’ll get my perfume and pet stuff on the internet over the weekend, and check to see if Home Depot has any internet-only specials for stuff I can use at work. There is not enough money in this world to get me into the 4x4 to drive 50 miles to the nearest mall or 30 miles to the nearest bigbox packed with women pawing over stuff like fishwives, pushing around screeching, sneezing esquincles in carts-anyway, I need my gas to go to work...

LOL...I avoid stores and shopping a month before, if possible, and weeks after Christmas, not worth the aggravation.

It is a complete mystery to me
How-spending thousands and more
Michelle Obama still resembles
What my cat dragged in the door

She just looks tatterdemalion-
Her clothes are worse each year
She should choose court jester
As her post-white house career

I do hope the next first lady
Has a mirror and better taste-
Or at least has no synchophants
Who don’t watch what they waste...

A+++ I scooted out early to two stores I wanted to get to, then home. It was a relief to get back home to my sanctuary.

He's on chemo and got pneumonia, then the fever came back and he felt worse. I suspect he is on IV antibiotics now. They gave him morphine for the pain, then he couldn't keep food down....that finally eased up last night. They were running tons of tests, so I hope they all come back ok.

Ordering stuff online for me and mine has been my preferred method of shopping ever since there was Paypal and a good variety of stuff. I don’t understand people who say this is new-when I was a kid on the ranch, everyone ordered from the Sears and other catalogs-the nearest Sears was 40 or more miles away in the city, as were other chain retailers. I just see the internet as a virtual mail order catalog-the stuff gets delivered to my gate, just like it did when I was a kid...

I still go to the nearest Home Depot-21 miles away-for most work stuff-but they have online specials all the time, and sometimes I can get tools, rollers, etc delivered right to my gate.

Good point - mail order has been around for very long time

I don’t mean to pry but did your BIL let it go too long before getting treatment? I thought Prostate Cancer was one of the cancers that was fairly easily treated? When my step father was diagnosed, of course my Mother was frantic, so we were researching it and thought it had a pretty high survival rate.

Thank you!

I don’t think a lot of people think of internet and mail order in the same context, but that is just because they aren’t thinking that the method of delivery-by some postal service, be it fedex, ups or the US postal service-is the same as it is for anything you order by phone from a TV ad, from a catalog, or from an internet site...

I buy from Lowes, even though it costs a little more, as Home Depot has support for issues I disagree with.

Yes, it was a mail order catalog in the south too for years, as most people rural were far from town.

I can’t be picky about issues when I buy stuff for work-I need to get what the customer wants, and get my tools for the best price-I work for/with a small contractor, not a big company.

The nearest Lowe’s is over 40 miles away. I have samples from other tile suppliers, but Home Depot has plenty of open stock tile that my customers like and I can get it delivered fast with no extra charge to a jobsite out here because the nearest one is in the nearest town of any size-about 6000 people.

I’m surprised that more people don’t remember mail order from Sears-I knew city people that ordered by mail because what they wanted was always available that way, when the store could be out of stock.
