The authors of the book, Joshua Pearce at Michigan Technological University and David Denkenberger at the Global Catastrophic Risk Institute, were tired of people imagining apocalyptic scenarios without offering solutions for how we might plausibly feed ourselves after global devastation.

I think it would look like one of those colonial worlds in the TV show Firefly - a few Big Bosses with ultra-modern technology and weapons controlling a large population of 1880's level serfs.
And you know how many of the elite are dreaming about just such a scenario.

Soylent Green and Meiseterbrau?
Of course, there is no logical reason why oil would completely disappear overnight. Natural gas and coal are also fossil fuels, and we have plenty of each.
In an emergency, cars and farm vehicles that run on natural gas could be developed and produced quickly.
“Fruitcakes and twinkies”
Two of the essential four food groups. Cheetos and milk chocolate being the other two. :-)
Ah. Galt's Gulch
But if, say, six nukes hit us—what isn’t killed in the main and outer impact zones, is still contaminated with the fallout as it is carried via the jetstream and other windstreams? Despite how just about every story/movie/novel about a nuclear attack on the United States paints it as small groups of people in rural areas surviving, that the fallout doesn’t reach everywhere, it isn’t going to be that bad, etc.—those that remain breathing after something like this happens, will regret having not just seen a blinding white flash near ground zero and then the face of the Lord Jesus. Life cannot exist in such a horrific environment, and whatever still does will cease to exist in a very short period of time.
I plan to feed on liberals.
There’s very little people can do after a major nuclear strike except kiss their a$$ good-bye. I’m more worried about an economic collapse or an attack on our electrical grids or water systems. The whole system of life will be disrupted by the ensuing chaos in the streets...I plan on being ready for that. I still have some vulnerabilities that I continue to work on each and every day. An apocalypse can happen in many different ways.
I realized after my post that I had not considered economic and power grid catastrophes, which are very likely and may occur at any moment. When I was a lot younger and had a very good-paying job, I had thought of many times to save up a chunk of money and sink it into a plot of land near a regional lake and river, and build a home and live off the lake’s many resources in the time of America’s economic collapse and other threats. As a Christian, I knew from studying the Word that this WAS GOING TO HAPPEN in my lifetime per watching prophecies being fulfilled at an increasingly rapid pace. I look back and regret that I had not gone through on my plans. But the Lord knew my life from the beginning, and He knows that I am in no position now to endeavor on such undertaking unless He decides to provide me with funds to do so, which I would carry out immediately. In all things, I have to trust Jesus that He will protect me and my family from the coming and horrific storm that is now brewing within and without our nation’s borders. In all and through all, I must believe and trust that the Lord God will protect those who have committed their lives to Him. In the Bible (Psalm 91:10-11), it says: “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
But the Word also tells us, that when men seek to destroy us because of our faith in Jesus Christ:
(Romans 14:8), it says, “For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.”
When we begin to physically and actively engage the enemies of our great land, I believe many will fall toward the push for victory. But I earnestly pray that they fall asleep in the Lord, so the true enemy of the world (satan), which is the source of all evil, will not obtain any victory.
