Faced with one of its biggest challenges in years - repairing a troubled nuclear missile corps - the Air Force has taken an important first step by admitting, after years of denial, that its problems run deep and wide. Less certain is whether it will find all the right fixes, apply them fully and convince a doubting force of launch officers, security guards and other nuclear workers that their small and narrow career field is not a dead end. The stakes are huge. The nation's strategy for deterring nuclear war rests in part on the 450 Minuteman 3 missiles that stand ready, 24/7, to launch at a moment's notice from underground silos in five states. Some question the wisdom of that strategy in an era of security threats dominated by terrorism and cyberattacks. But whatever their role, those intercontinental ballistic missiles, or ICBMs, will have to be safeguarded for years to come.

That doesn't mean they won't still work, in situ as is. Hey what the heck ...
There’s only one solution: disband the Air Force and bring back the Army Air Corp. ;)
For 20 Years the Nuclear Launch Code at US Minuteman Silos Was 00000000

I’m thinking that if they reset all the launch codes to 00000000 they could do it successfully with no problem!
That’s the same combination that I have on my luggage.
Damn straight! lol!
I see what you did there.
How about one large Marine Corps with a naval contingent?
OOOOO.
That could be all kinds of fun.
The USAF takes a missile out of a silo and uses it to launch warheads under scientific test just to be sure the systems work...and they do.
Dont believe everything you read on Gizmodo or Snopes either.
Both are full of crap.
Hydrazine huh.
I was an LGM25C. what’s your connection?
The Air Force has been spending all its time kicking God out of all its events so is it any wonder troubles have filled the vacuum? No sympathy here.
So things have done a 180 reversal with the Air force?
Once upon a time we thought the Navy had that act down to a science and the Army didn’t care about housing at all.Does the Army still not care? Just asking. been a while.
What is even the point of land-based missile silos? the enemy knows where they are and could in theory take them out in a surprise attack. Boomer subs on the other hand, lurk anywhere in the world, and cannot all be taken out because they won’t know where most of them are, if they know where any of them are.
Thank God for the boomers, eh? We all knew the air force would never pull their weight in the triad.
Take the humans out of the loop. Let the WOPR make the decisions.
No connection to the Titan II or any other military rocket. I’m just a rocket man.
Obama probably had all the keys collected
