in the Thrift Store yesterday, I picked up the definitive biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
It was a huge thick book, with lots of glossy page inserts with photos.
I brought it up to the counter, and said “This man is my hero”
The proprietor said..”Take it. it is my gift to you!”
If you like Bonhoffer, you'd like "Every Man Dies Alone" by Hans Fallada. It's about a working class couple resisting the Nazis in Berlin during the war. I liked it a lot.
The first English translation only came out in 2009, so it may not have percolated down to the used book stores yet. (I checked it out of the library.)
