Defense lawyers have conceded that Holmes was the lone gunman but say he was in the throes of a psychotic episode, a claim his parents repeated in their statement.
“He is a human being gripped by a severe mental illness,” they said of their son, adding that before the mass shooting, “he never harmed anyone and ... had no criminal history.”

I agree. Mental illness is real and the Devil is real and these two forces combined can wreak havoc.
Holmes should be executed, but I don’t fault his parents for trying to save his life. I also am impressed by their sincerity and believe that they are truly anguished by the suffering their son has caused. Their lives must be living hells.
I think a bullet between the ears would cure him.
About 9 years ago a kid shot a high school principal & the two assistant principal, in cold blood. One assistant principal died the other two men injured. He was allowed to plea for a long sentence. Original sentence was 45 years with no parole hearing for 25 years. This was done to avoid being tried as adult on Murder One. Lo and behold about 7 years later his new lawyer takes it to a judge well known for overturning cases and a Get Out Of Jail with time served ruling was handed down. Campbell County High School Shooting Not even ten years behind bars had past and there was no question as too guilt. Cases like these and judges are the reason such plea bargains should never be allowed to start with. Lawyers often do it in the hopes of finding a sympathetic judge later on.
