Man, I loved this song in the 70s as a little girl. Makes me so happy to hear it.

Neil Diamond’s “I Am, I Said” (1971) makes me nostalgic, in that he notes that “rents are low” in Los Angeles.

I didn’t favor the song because it seemed to be about a guy getting out of prison.

I took the opposite view. I favored the song because to me it was a story about redemption. He told her he'd totally understand if she didn't want him back, and he would put all of the blame on himself.

Of course I was 3 years old at the time.

"Tie a Yellow Ribbon" went to number one on the Billboard Hot Hundred and stayed on the chart for almost half a year. But as it was falling, this tune--my favorite from 1973--was rising and would reach number eight.

Sometimes there’s so much BO I almost pass out. Also, can only take so much political BS... :)

The Flamingos' recording of I'll Be Home, from 1956, includes the phrase "my time's about up" as well as "I'll be home to start serving you" and "once more, our love will be free." Were these references to a prison term? In any case, Pat Boone's version of the song changed "my time's about up" to "my mind's made up."

Yes, they both did keyboards. DD did a tour with the Beach Boys doing their keys and when they went on another tour he didn’t want to go but recommended TT (they weren’t married yet) take over the keys. She did the tour and the Boys always called Toni the first girl “Beach Boy”. Toni developed a crush on Daryl and penned the tune “The Way I Want To Touch You” but she claimed the “touching” referred to an emotional touch (but some stations wouldn’t play the song anyway because it was “too suggestive”).

Sweet Caroline was way before Tie a Yellow Ribbon.

Sweet Caroline was a hit in the early fall of 1969.

Tie a Yellow Ribbon became a hit in the spring of 1973.

Most lady pop stars are the kind a guy might want to have fun with. Toni Tenille looks like the kind you’d bring home to your parents and announce the engagement.

I think another song that referred to prison was “My Boyfriend’s Back.” (Probably back from a juvenile prison.)

Hmmmm--never thought of that. I had always assumed the boyfriend was on vacation, had relocated to pursue a career, or was sitting east of the Rhine holding an M-14 and keeping an eye out for Russkies.

In any case, here's the answer song:

Im trying to find something about a sympathy letter Orlando wrote to a family member of someone famous that died. My mom remembers the story, but can’t think of who it is. First she said Diana Shore. Now she thinks Freddie Prinze. Anyway, keep finding nice stories about him:
