You are free to rail furiously against anything. Simply does not make you correct or validate your dearly held notions and beliefs. Nor does it demonstrate any particular capacity for insight.

"Rail furiously." Sigh. You're totally cute when you're mad, for sure.

Up until the last century or so, you also had the girl's family having a lot to say about who she married, through their having a degree of control over who she associated with.
Girls going out on "dates", outside family supervision, is a relatively recent innovation.

Don’t let the door of rationality hit you as you exit the thread. Bye.

The liberalism of the past becomes unspeakable today. And the cultural marxist revolution marches on

I thought the book and movie were guilty white liberal excrement and cant stand when people defend such middlebrow crap but what do I know? Not having been alive in the 30's and never having lived in Alabama I have no first hand knowledge to either confirm or refute the historical accuracy of this work. But it's my understanding that in the 30's black people weren't always treated in a reasonable fashion,or even close to it.If my belief is borne out by actual fact then this work is a powerful, and fully worthy, one.
If my belief is incorrect then your assessment ("middlebrow crap") is quite appropriate.Show me the evidence that my belief is unfounded and I'll come over to your side.
