Crime is largely deterred by finding the bad guys and locking them up for a while. Of course that required some crimes to be committed.

But a lot of people believe it is the job of police to PREVENT crimes, which is illogical if you think about it.
It is extremely rare for the police to be in there before most crime is committed and to prevent it.

Even Giuliani was espousing the view that the police prevent crime. No they don’t. Not directly. They do so indirectly by chasing down or tracking down criminals AFTER they commit a crime.

That is not a subtle difference. Most people are unaware that they are mostly on their own. Police are not going to magically appear the moment you are in some kind of trouble and need them. They are not protecting you personally.

I blame this on the anti-gun left who have promoted this idea that the police are somehow your personal bodyguards and you don’t need to take any measures whatsoever to protect yourself ... even precautionary ones.
