Here is a good example of how to not to police people, as seen at Friday's Pac-12 championship game. According to the video uploader, this confrontation started when the man in white walked down the wrong pathway. The situation then quickly escalated, for no clear reason. A lieutenant from the Santa Clara Police Department confirmed through email that the officers involved worked for the department.

He got off easy for fighting 3 cops.
Rule 1 - you can beat the rap, but you can’t beat the ride.
Cops showed restraint toward the agitators.
Well, we could look on the bright side: this guy just made a few hundred thousand off of this and a bad cop has probably lost his job.
Looks like the idiot should have backed off when the cop told him to back off.
Or shoot his dog!
The cops keep this crap up with giving beat downs unjustifiably to those who are not a threat are going to have crowds do this to them.

You mean somebody actually showed up for the game?
Stands looked pretty empty to me.
“Well, we could look on the bright side: this guy just made a few hundred thousand off of this and a bad cop has probably lost his job.”
All the cops looked like knuckle draggers from various foreign countries.! The collective IQ was a negative number, and yet some a$$oles in the PD decided that they could carry guns! Just a disgrace!
Hey, as long as it was not a black guy, they probably can do as they like.
No, but one of them did break a nightstick on him.

Welcome to Califormia.....the Americans are almost gone
Having the game played at a "neutral" site was another brilliant move by the Einsteins who run the Pac 12--along with Thursday-night games. Had it been played at the home field of one of the teams, the stadium would have been packed.
When the law acts unreasonably people quickly lose respect for it. It has already reached a new low in the African American community. It will sink lower in other communities too. People do not like seeing unarmed men die at the hands of the police. “Justifiable” is a legal term that washes away criminal culpability, it does not wash away in people’s minds.
There are just too many laws. And as the people in the first video plainly made clear the police are not using their discretion wisely. And they end up doing things like this, which in this case could easily have been a distraction intended to draw the police away while perps try something even more grave. Now criminals know if they want to rob the cash in the beer stand send a couple of fat white guys to walk down the wrong aisle and holler at the cops. 6 or 8 or 12 cops will swarm, leaving the cash box an easier mark.
In this video a man was beaten and arrested for what appears to be a non-violent, non physical confrontation with the cops. New York, a man died because the cops wanted to hook and book him for selling cigarettes without paying the tax. In both cases the police could have issued a warning, or, issued a paper summons. They escalated it to violence when they didn’t need to, and probably shouldn’t have.
Agreed. Maybe the SEC can get away with it, because of the relative closeness of the Atlanta area to the schools, but here you are talking about the length of the entire West Coast.
Jeez, were those ill-clothes “cops” at the beginning of the video REAL cops? They looked more like short, little Guatemalan gang-bangers in cheap cop costumes. And all the “cop” behavior appeared to be amateurish.
The video does show the guy in white grabbing the cops arm, both at the beginning and later in the video as these try to escort him away or arrest him.
The guy shooting the video whose voice you hear sounds like a drama queen.
I guess I'll take the mindless politically correct approach on this.
It's time to march with Sharpton.
I can't breathe.
Hands up don't shoot.
Free Mummia.
Federalize the local police.
Federalizing police is a terrible idea.
St. Swisher grabbed at an officer’s gun and then tried to charge him.
The “can’t breathe” guy. Seems 5 (or 6 counting the black lady officer on the scene we never see on video) had that guy under control when he was on the ground and should have stopped then.
There are some, however, on FR who believe police can do no wrong. Which is odd because if cops never do wrong, what’s wrong with having a police state? They’d pose a risk of injustice to nobody, so what’s to fear?
Cops are probably Fed trained. That way we can have more civil strife which will require a Federal response meaning more Federal training, more weapons, vehicles. This will create a further backlash requiring a greater Federal response, and on and on.
Result: Feds get more power, people lose more liberty.
That's where Obama, Holder and Sharpton are trying to take this. We need to be careful.
As I said looking at this video I can not tell if the guy in white did anything before the video started. All I can see is that the guy in white was grabbing at the cops arm at the beginning of the video and later in the video as the cops try to escort him out or arrest him.
Our diversity is the reason for our incredible strength.
Yes indeed things are so much better here now than, say, thirty or forty years ago.
