President Barack Obama, who had medical tests on Saturday after complaining of a sore throat, is suffering from acid reflux, the president's physician said.
"The president's symptoms are consistent with soft tissue inflammation related to acid reflux and will be treated accordingly," Obama's doctor, Captain Ronny Jackson, said in a statement.
Acid reflux is a condition in which the stomach contents flow back up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing such symptoms as heartburn and sore throat.

Obama, 53, went to Walter Reed military hospital for a fiber optic exam of his throat and since swelling was detected, doctors decided to perform a CT scan as well, Jackson said.
"The CT scan was conducted this afternoon purely as a matter of convenience for the President's schedule. The CT scan was normal," Jackson added.
Jackson said he recommended Obama go to Walter Reed for the tests after the president complained of suffering from a sore throat over the past couple of weeks.
Jackson did not give any cause for Obama's case of the illness.
There are many risk factors for acid reflux, including smoking, use of alcohol and hiatal hernia, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Most people respond to lifestyle changes and medicines, although many patients need to continue on medication to control their symptoms.

Long term use of high doses of a proton pump inhibitor can cause osteoporosis.

Smoking enhances omneprazole’s effectiveness; start with two packs a day...:-)
asshat reflux...lol!
Thanks.
My dad had the same thing happen earlier this year and was diagnosed with Pnumonia but it didn’t last for weeks.
“There are many risk factors for acid reflux, including smoking, use of alcohol and hiatal hernia, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.”
Probably some STDs as well... And in his case probably more likely.
Not that I'm hoping, but allow me to quote Clarence Darrow:
"I never wanted to see anybody die, but there are a few obituary notices I have read with pleasure".
I’ve had that happen a few times. I keep baking soda by the bed to kill the acid quick! Must then cough the rest out of my lungs.
I found if I over eat spicy food or eat BEEF before going to bed it hits me.
Family history shows many of my kin died of “Acute Indigestion”. When the pains hit me they treated me for indigestion. It was later found I HAD A BLOCKED ARTERY in my heart so now have a stent.
My dad had it BAD! He smoked the old fashioned way by sucking the smoke into his mouth, then swallowing it to the stomach, bypassing the lungs. Then burp it back up and exhale. He was also an alcoholic which made it worse. His chest pains were terrible and his 4th heart attack killed him.
In the last few years of his miserable life he became unable to swallow solid food at times, gagging at the table.
“No one needs a doctor for acid reflux...”
If I’m not mistaken the POTUS has a doctor nearby 24/7. The least little sniffle will have the doc looking at him.
Never have surgery for a Hiatal Hernia, my friend almost died and still has problems with food.
I had one and my chiropractor fixed it, it hurt like hell when he pushed and pulled it, but I have never had problems since and that was over 15 years ago.
A cold Kenyan pizza who could use a lemon squeezer.
“No one needs a doctor for acid reflux unless they are getting it frequently like twice or three times a week.”
Please do not take my comment out of context. Yes POTUS had a 24/7 privilege. However minor incidents can be cured with some Apple Cider Vinegar and water....
Better to have a little better PH level and it won’t happen.
The name ‘acid reflux’ is not accurately describing the issue.
I think the proper designation would be “choking on his own #&$%*” But that’s just me ;)
I have a friend who suffers from acid reflux, will tell her about the apple cider vinegar fix, and hope it works for her. Doesn’t get much more simple, does it? Thanks
Is there a correlation between acid reflux and esophageal cancer?
I haven’t kept up with these Barry/acid reflux threads. Possibly the question has been answered already.
People who are prone to acid reflux after meals or going to bed.. should make organic apple cider a regular dose during the day. Regular apple cider works in a pinch...but the organic has that floating stuff in it that works better.
A teaspoon in water in am or pm Checking their PH levels would help also.
Prone to gas...take a little baking soda in water regularly. Keep an eye on the PH level and lots of things will work out if you research what can bring you into balance.
His mother Stanley Ann Dunham was a heavy smoker. She died of cancer at a relatively young age, not quite 53.
His father was a raging alcoholic who died at early age in a DUI wreck at the age of 46.
“Tobacco? Weed? Crack? Which is it?”

Probably all of the above +?.
Many patients with Barrett's Esophagus earlier suffered with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). I would have a good chance of it except I got the reflux under control with a triple dose of Prilosec (another PPI would work as well). An endoscopic exam a couple years ago showed nothing dramatic except for some stricture.
BTW, as I posted last evening, the home remedies do nothing for me except for raw apple cider vinegar, but I couldn't tolerate it for very long (every few hours).
Doesn’t spliffing shrink the brain?
Yes. My daughter’s dad was recently diagnosed wit esophageal cancer. GERD runs in his family and his brothers all have Barrett’s esophagus.
