Most of the Japanese responsible for the atrocities are now dead.
The sins of the Japanese in that war are not taught, and many young Japanese find the truth hard to believe when they finally come upon it. To this day, the Japanese are hated in the far east because of what they did in WW2; movies from countries they conquered or controlled show this.
Most Americans are unaware that Japan controlled Korea prior to WW2 and forced all Koreans to adopt Japanese names. They forbade the teaching of Korean.
Japan also controlled Taiwan, and they drafted ethnic Chinese into the Japanese army.
