Jeff, I've seen "TRAINED" staff in a head injury/spinal injury rehab unit that managed to subdue a patient holding a broken Coke Bottle threatening them and himself with it. The difference is they are trained and experienced and have the medication means to chemically subdue a patient in seconds once they grab them if talking doesn't work. Cops are not mental health professionals. They were placed in this equation by the courts.

Many times the ones who blame the COPs will also scream bloody murder that mental patients are being kept against their will in some case and violating their rights.
