The first ten years I lived here the time and temp were always accurate. Location of sensors wouldn’t explain the incorrect time either. Since they obviously aren’t going to fix it I wonder why they don’t save the electricity and just shut it off.
Agreed. They should shut it off.
It’s also possible that temperature fluctuations between two and six years from now will shut it off for them. I made sure that some recent replacements for solar system components here are good down to -40, F (couldn’t find any that will stand lower than that). We’re also looking at some ways to backup propane heating with non-propane solutions.
Propane yields noticeably less volume and pressure for large appliances in the minus 30s, F, and freezes at -44, F. Propane furnaces and generators, needing much volume, could be problematic, and large propane tanks made for burial are very expensive. One solution is to heat propane tanks with heat tape and insulation, but that’s not as reliably done for houses too far from the grid (expensive heating with PV solar systems).
