In my years of driving I have seen tires/wheels crossing the highway a number of times from traffic on the other side. I have always been fortunate in being able to avoid them.
I saw a coil of steel after it went off a flatbed near New Stanton. It didn’t go over the jersey barrier, it went through it. It blocked both lanes when it unrolled. No one was hurt.
On June 14, 1980, heading North on I-240 in Memphis, a semi truck wheel from a South bound semi came off and began bouncing across the median toward my car. It hit in front of my car and bounced over it to continue behind me. I was seconds from an accident. It was one of several bad omens for my first wedding day. I should have taken heed.
