For me personally, Best Buy sucks, the stores near me when I do go in are poorly stocked and only with the brands they push. I have found the stores not kept clean and noisy and have never been a fan of their difficult return policies, however since they have not induced me to make a purchase in years maybe that has changed.

What Best Buy doesn't tell you is that there is a 50% "restocking" fee if you return something.

Amazon, never an issue with the returns.

I used to go to Circuit City. They paid and trained their salespeople more than Best Buy. I generally found their people more informative and helpful and ended up saving money in the long run buying the right thing at a slightly higher price than the wrong thing altogether.

The management of Circuit City decided to try and increase profits by lowering their salespeople's salary and training. They lost their edge and went out of business.

I've noticed that in the wake of Circuit City's demise that Best Buy now seems to have better trained employees that give good information rather than trying to steer me toward a particular purchase.

Your results may vary.

I second that. Our closest Best Buy is smack in the middle of a heavily Hispanic/Black populated area and is replete with crime.

I stopped going after an incident 2 years ago where a man approached me as I was loading recent purchases into the trunk of my car and asked for a light. When I told him I don't smoke, I noticed he got fidgety and agitated. I stepped back toward my driver's side door, and positioned myself with my hand on my sidearm.

Not a second later, a squad car came ripping into the parking lot with its lights blazing and sirens blaring, and the guy took off running between cars. He was tackled just a few dozen yards away from me and had a stolen gun, knife, and a few hundred dollars in cash on his person.

One of the responding officers took a statement from me and told me that a "milky white boy with a no hair" should avoid the area if at all possible. I never go through that part of town anymore.

Last two times I've tried to get something at Best Buy (because it is relatively close to where I live), their selection sucked horribly, and what they did have was way overpriced. I ended up going to Frys. Got just what I wanted, and didn't overpay for it.
