The LORD rebuke the AP for their mendacity here.

I saw an article over the weekend that the numbers were still going up and they hadn’t even started peaking.
but I believe the CDC.

Typical of so many scientific type people these days - makes subjective statement vs. objective statements and folks are supposed to listen to him as if he had some sort of credence.
On the flip side, he probably lowered the numbers because the original predictions and timelines were showing a lower set of expectations - he looked at some evidence and concluded that the original data was wrong ::: If only the global-warming-climate yo-yos (no offence to Yo-Yo Ma if he happens to lurk around FR - I enjoy listening to him) would do the same...

(from the article):"CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden said, We dont think the projections from over the summer will come to pass.
Better to have shortened the sentance , Doc. ! ..to:

in which case he would revert to his true "community organizer " undergraduate college degree,
and be bookends to his mentor , Barack Obama.

Well then I guess that explains why Fort Hood just priority ordered a bench top biosafety containment workstation for Ebola testing.

Based only on the reported numbers, it seems that he's right. We may not hit it by the time they projected. But using the published numbers, we'll hit 1.4 million by the end of July, 2015. But if the reported numbers are only 1/3 of the actual numbers, then the current projections put us at 1.4 million by the end of May.

The CDC September estimates were simple arithmetical progressions, and were based on 2 assumptions, neither of which turn out to be true:
1) That all persons living in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia are susceptible. Within the last two weeks, it has been demonstrated that significant numbers of individuals there have high-level Ebola antibodies (presumably from prior, asymptomatic infections)/
2) That no changes in behavior will occur. Funeral practices and bushmeat consumption are already changing.
In Monrovia, Conakry, and Freetown, new diagnoses are already falling compared to two weeks ago.
This does not mean we're out of the woods, but it does mean the simple September projections are unlikely to be fulfilled.
