Fresh from their overwhelming victory on Election Day, handing them control of the Senate over pro-abortion Democrats led by Harry Reid, Senate Republicans have unanimously elected pro-life Senator Mitch McConnell as their leader.
McConnell, hailing from Kentucky, has promised the Senate will vote on a House-passed bill that bans abortions after 5 months because scientific research shows unborn children can feel pain at that point in pregnancy.
The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act: bans abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy and would save at least 18,000 lives a year. McConnell previously pledged that if his party won the majority, he would advance a vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The legislation is supported by the majority of Americans women in higher numbers than men.
The federal version of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is based on model legislation developed by National Right to Life and was first enacted in Nebraska in 2010. Since then, nine other states have enacted the law.
No U.S. senator has done more for unborn children than Sen. Mitch McConnell, said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life.
As reported by National Right to Life, McConnell has been a key supporter of every major pro-life initiative to come before the U.S. Senate during his tenure, including current legislation to protect unborn children at 20 weeks, a point by which the unborn child is capable of experiencing great pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion techniques.
Mitch McConnell is a stalwart defender of innocent human life and a tireless advocate for pro-life principles, said Margie Montgomery, executive director of Kentucky Right to Life.

We are encouraged with the new pro-life Senate and look forward to a vote on our top legislative priority, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This compassionate, popular legislation will protect the lives of more than 18,000 unborn children per year, SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser said. Leader McConnell has a 100 percent pro-life voting record and has pledged to bring the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to the floor for a vote.
Last month, McConnell said he would be willing to repeal Obamacare with a simple majority.
Leader McConnell is and has always been committed to the full repeal of Obamacare, and hell continue to lead efforts to repeal and replace it with patient-centered reforms that enable greater choice at lower costs. He knows it wont be easy, but he also believes that if Republicans are fortunate enough to take back the majority well owe it to the American people to try through votes on full repeal, the bills most onerous provisions, and reconciliation, McConnell spokesman Brian McGuire wrote in an emailed statement.
Obamacare. Its the largest expansion of government-run health care in the history of the nation. Its the largest expansion of funding for the abortion industry since Roe . Wade. Its a health care scheme that has rationed health care by driving up costs for many Americans or causing them to lose their health insurance entirely.
The pro-life movement has been unanimous in its opposition to Obamacare because of these pro-life concern.
I'm holding his feet to the fire on this one.
This oughtta get some FemiNazi panties in a knot.
Starting with Princess Nancy
I can already hear Pelouzi and Hitlery screeching. The MSM heads will be spinning arouond. Good for Mitch. Maybe he will be better than we think.
“. Maybe he will be better than we think.”
The night Mitch won, I kept saying “you really wanted pro abort Grimes to win??”. Grimes was against no limits on abortion, up to the 9th month. Come on people! You really wanted her to win?
Only time will tell if this was the right decision. I have doubts.
It amazes me to this day that this is even discussed.
When Roe v. Wade was announced in January 1973 I distinctly recall that it applied only to the first trimester.
People bought this because of the “it’s only a mass of tissue” argument at that time.
I knew that was crap because I was a biology major that year and anyone who said something like that would fail Bio 101 Ontogeny: the development of a human is well known in the 12th week.
It’s a human, i.e., a “person” as the lawyers like to worry about. Oddly, I recall no law school students in my bio classes...
But we were all unaware of Doe v. Bolton.
The concept that you could fabricate a reason (”mother’s health”) to execute and dismember a child of say 20 weeks inside it’s mother and that was a “right” is absurd.
If you can do that, then infanticide is a right - the passage through the birth canal is of no importance.
It has nothing to do with when they can feel pain. They’re humans from the start.
“Maybe he will be better than we think.”
Let us pray!
Obama and the DemocRATS will veto or obstruct anything that rolls back progrees on their agenda.
If we haven't woken up by then, say hello to president Hillary and good bye to the America we used to know.
why the hell are they electing a new leader NOW for the NEXT congress??
It could (theoretically) be all new people!
You'd better wear asbestos gloves, because you're going to be holding those feet for a loooooong time, IMO.
“Let us pray!”
we should have been doing that all along!
Does anyone know if the incoming republicans have a procedure to replace McConnell — something like a vote of no confidence? Is something like that in the realm of possibility (even if unlikely)?
This is too low a price to pay for destroying our country.
McConnell may derail the conservative agenda for six more years, joining the RINOs with the socialist Democrat agenda, because that is what his Unamerican multinational corporation masters at the Chamber of Commerce want.
McConnell sells our birthright for a mess of pottage.
So, say he gets his 5 months abortion ban. Obama will ignore him. But the cost of this nothing is:
1) Obamacare is set in concrete as the law of the land, killing millions deprived of decent health care, mostly the unborn, infants, and the elderly.
2) The economy is torn apart by grotesque spending, impoverishing millions more and creating trillions more in debt. What can we do, renounce the national debt?
3) The borders are opened wide, after McConnell lets Obama give millions of illegal aliens citizenship, and invites in millions more, until our nation is so impoverished that people are starving in the gutters, and even the illegal aliens return because their home nations are more prosperous.
Yes, but McConnell allows a worthless prohibition against abortion after the fifth month, that will be tied up in court for years.
America is forfeit because of people like him. May his name be cursed and when he dies may his body be torn apart by dogs for his villainy.
This is an old Karl Rove trick, sort of the like the Bush administration’s sudden support for a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman. A good thing, but it had zero chance of even getting started in the amendment process, and was only done to distract conservatives.
This from Mitch sounds like the same thing, a distraction, when we have the huge and pressing issues of Obama’s illegal amnesty and obamacare, etc.
