If Peruta is upheld, and all states become "Shall Issue", a lot of us are going to have to go shopping for a new concealed carry firearm with all the accessories.
I have not given a lot of thought about what I would buy, given the fact that I live in the State of New Jersey. I would be more likely to hit the Mega Millions than land a concealed carry permit under the NJ rules. So I am kind lost in the woods, here.
I thinking that something fairly small, but with decent accuracy that is not going to beat my hand to death when I practice with it. I don't see the point of owning a firearm that you would not be willing to put 100 rounds through every other week or so, otherwise you won't know what to do with it when the time comes.
I would not be averse to 380 Auto, but would not rule out a larger caliber.
What do our more experienced FRiends out there in the real world own?
M&P shield is a great carry piece.
I never like the triggers on the Ruger guns, the LC9 being probably the worst production trigger I’ve ever felt.
I like the S&W airweight revolvers. 5 shot, very small.
Since I’m also in NJ, the conversation is moot, I don’t expect to carry here, ever.
I never discuss what I own or don’t own on the internet.
That’s not a good idea IMHO.
I had a Para Ordnance LDA 9. I loved the smooth trigger. I now carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II. I’d recommend either for compactness and reliability. The Kimber will set you back about 1K, though.
There is a lot to like about the S&W Airweight, since it is small enough but has the bulletproof reliability of a revolver. But it seems like it might be a little hard on the hands, as light as it is. All the recoil is going to have to be absorbed by your hand on that little grip.
Have you had any experience firing one of these? I know I have never even bothered, since I thought I would never need to know.
if you can find one, the Bersa UC Pro in 9mm is a great little carry piece.
Good point. Really good point.
Sorry for the way I phrased that. I should not even ask.
More a suggestion thread, perhaps?
I had a Smith Model 37, and even with better grips I disliked shooting anything but the mildest .38 Special loads. And I’m not particularly recoil averse in handguns.
On that Kahr P380, it is surprising to see the adjustable sights on something so small.
Added to title just to show this is pure speculation on your part.
Give the CZ82 a try. It hits harder than a 380, has a twelve round mag and is DA/SA so you can carry one chambered for DA first shot. Smooth trigger and very durable for carry.
Other than a complete political change, only mass disobedience of the unconstitutional carry restrictions (by tens of thousands, not just a few hundred) is likely to have any effect upon the current infringements.
Drift adjustable means you need a hammer and punch. They’re probably fine from the factory.
But we can all dream, can’t we?
My two cents: I like a simple J-frame .38 revolver, 5 shots, no laser or mods. Most (90%+) pistol engagements take place at less than 15 feet and fewer than 3 rounds (that is the statistic quoted to me by most firearms instructors I have talked to). Never jams. Just point & shoot center body mass. Hit the range with standard .38 rounds. Carry P+ self protection loads (even if your revolver is only rated for .38 special).
My daughter has one. Really neat gun. Fires well and very lightweight. Hers is pink.
When I took her to the gun shop, the counter guy names off 4-5 family members who had one, and that was before I told him what we were looking at.
Ah, I see. Well, I don’t know why you would bother, with such a short barrel, unless they were completely off.
I have a S&W 638 which has the shrouded hammer and is 38sp only. The most I've ever run through it at one range setting was 50 rounds and that is enough. These were +p rounds, so not powder puffs. Not that I couldn't have shot more, it's that it just stopped being enjoyable. I'm not sure I'd want to shoot .357 mag out of that size gun.
In a self defense scenario, you wouldn't even notice the recoil so I'm not sure that's something I'd worry about.
Usually have a 12.5" AR in 6.8 in the trunk, just in case I have time to swing by the range.
