If I were writing the episodes, that would be enough. In fact, in my episodes, the women would be protected behind castle walls, safe from gangs of men and zombies, safely having kids and raising them to be able to live in that world, while the men did all the dying, since the men are cheaply replaceable. They only have a few more years before the technology they are used to will fail, and the kids need to learn survival skills, and to preserve the knowledge of the old culture.
But in this show, given that women go out and get killed, Beth's character seems just out of whack with all the other women characters. She is a younger sister of Maggie, but she can't be that much younger. The actress is 29 years old, shouldn't the character be capable of more?
And one thing that has kind of bugged me is Rick and Carl not taking care of Judith enough. The only time Rick seems to kild Judith is when he is handing her to someone else. He should be struggling with her more.
In the show Beth is 18 or 19 and led a pretty sheltered life even after the zombie apocalypse. She was just a kid when this happened.
Beth, I think, is going to change once she’s freed from the gulag.
I agree about Judith. Rick and Carl have been pretty much relieved of any duties regarding her.
Agreed. Men in general would be more likely to survive, whether as survivalists or fisherman on a boat or ex-military men with skills or working on an oil rig when it all happened. Men would outnumber women two or three to one or more, especially given the odds women who were safe could still get bit protecting kids or tending to the sick.
In those circumstances, the most the women should do is walk around the perimeter of the prison fence, poking zombie eyes out. Otherwise, there were multiple children to take care of.
Heck, Beth could have been watching the baby and the two orphaned sisters part time.
