This map, which originated with National Journal, has been making the rounds on Twitter. It it similar to the one that was popular a few years ago that showed the United States as red or blue, by county. But this map shows the Congressional districts based on the just-completed election:

LOL - you did it again!
I’m in Minnesota. I can answer thequestion. We are all sanctimonious. Many times, this trait manifests as stupidity. Hence the blues.
I am really enjoying the article, and the comments beneath. Explains a lot.
You will also notice that eastern AZ., a district gerrymandered to favor super lib Ann Kirkpatrick also remained blue. That district is over 300 miles long and snakes around to hit the liberal university pockets and Native American enclaves. Pima Cty. and Cochise cty are still pretty much up for grabs depending if Barber can find enough hidden ballots to overcome the lead that McSally has at present.
The state bird of Minnesota is the loon.
Need I say more?
It goes back to the Granger Laws, Silverites, Populist movements in the Midwest in the late 1800s, Progressive movements (early 19th century), and early labor activism.
Wisconsin and Minnesota were the epicenter of it. And it was entrenched. That is why the Democrats in Minn. are called the DFL. FL meaning “Farm and Labor”. And is was the only thing that kept Mondale from a clean sweep defeat in 84.
Garrison Keillor is from there and he is as batty left as anyone in NYC or SF.
It’s like the most leftist state outside of the coasts.
The good news revealed by that map is that if the crap hits the fan, then the leftists are going to find themselves VERY isolated. Three thousand miles between NYC and LA, and it all belongs to US.
Those horned Viking hats are too snug.
Almost a 4 to 1 early ballot vs polling for Barber.
McSally a 2 to 1.
The article attributes Minnesota’s leftism to Scandinavian influence (partly), yet, just across the line into the Dakotas, where you have the same Scandinavians, it is very conservative.
Does anybody have an answer to this? Perhaps FReepers from those areas of the country.
Is McSally going to lose?
We fled Minnesota almost 18 monthes ago. Feels awesome to be in a red state.
It’s the lutefisk.
The state has the distinction of voting Democrat for president without interruption since 1976.
No other state can match that record. It may explain something.
The sad thing about the gerrymandering in AZ, the repubs had control, but they decided to “share” their power. I’ve called Kirkpatrick several times before Obamacare was voted upon, even though I was not in her district, now that I am, she will be hearing from me a lot.
My husband just read over my shoulder to my comment and further stated that they put where we live, which is very conservative into her district, in order to disenfranchise us, and further more, not to add it to CD2, because if they did MCSally ( not that I personally like her) would be ahead by a couple thousand votes.
They put us in with a bunch of libs in order to make certain that the vote for conservatives never rises about 50%.
The blue areas look like growths that can be excised so the patient recovers....
