Nope, you’re not alone. Oh, I still could sit back and watch the old “Captain Marvel” serial with Tom Tyler any day of the week, and similarly sit back and get a huge kick out of reading an old Curt Swan or Wayne Boring era “Superman” story.

But the modern aspects of the superhero genre are things I find rather offputting... the heavy ‘angst’ of the characters, the overblown and operatic set-pieces, and the hyperkinetic special-effects that make everything seem like a cartoonish video-game. Makes for a hellish movie-going experience in my book.

‘Captain Marvel’ serial was great...he knew how to deal with the bad guys...machine-gunning them in the back as they ran for their lives; throwing them off buildings from twenty stories up...good times.
