The guy was a "normal guy" but he did not carry a cell phone or credit cards, just a measly $50 in cash?
On a trip a decent distance from home?

I don't carry a cell phone, and I rarely have $50 in cash on me. As for not having credit cards, how did they know that? Come to think of it, how did they know how much money he had?
