The place I used to take deer for butchering used to ask if you wanted the hide preserved for a trophy mount. In fact they have a 16 point full body mount inside the door that one of my friends gave them. My friend couldn't afford to have it processed so they took the hide in payment.

Carrion is not wasted...multiple predators and scavengers consume it and that's assuming they did what you suggest...which is a rare occurrence venison is too revered and the carcass has inherent value. What you suggest is one of the main argument anti hunters use to disparage the practice!!
