I know baseball doesn't occupy the same level of pre-eminence that it may have had fifty years ago, but it is the championship, and it still a great game. Royals up 3-0 in the sixth. Great defense all around.
I never liked George Brett because he replaced the 2nd greatest defensive 3B I ever saw -— Paul Schaal. The early Royals were a really cool team.
Strange move by KC letting the pitcher hit instead of having Butler hit for him. But they won so it worked.
Yeah, they would have been soooo much better keeping Schaal over Hall of Famer Brett. LOL
I assume that the greatest defensive third basemen you ever saw was Graig Nettles. ;^)
Defensive only: Brooks, Nettles, Billy Cox and Clete Boyer my top 4.
I know you were referring to Robinson. I was just being a smart aleck. Nettles was no slouch, though.
strange indeed. No excuse .. unless he was just up there to a) get the runner to 2nd on SB and then PH or
b) runner is caught stealing, inning over.
imp, I was talking bout what if 9th inn 2 guys on ... 2 out and Casilla due up. Game on the line, down 3-2 .... ya gotta go with the Catcher.
if extra innings, nobody on ... yes, use a pitcher to pinch hit.
No slouch at all! He was fantastic. My list was in no particular order btw. For overall ability and stats, (hitting/throwing/fielding/MVP’s/Gold Gloves/All Star App. etc. etc. etc), at 3rd. base I gotta go with the Phillie’s Mike Schmidt. He was far from my favorite player, (never cared for Philadelphia anything!!!), but he gets my vote.
Malt liquor, chicken wings and this playing: http://youtu.be/UDApZhXTpH8
It all says “KC win b!”
Joe “Shoney’s” Maddon: Hmmm...I still think he’ll manage LAD.
Good that Paulie K. got SOMETHING; Jeter sucked all the air out of the retirement balloon.
I remember Nettles making great plays when he was on the Indians!
Those Municipal Stadium Royals were a great infield. Schaal, Patek/Rojas. And the legendary groundskeeper. Those were really cool teams.
Anybody else see a “series tied 2-2” item on the realtime batting stats corner during the Bcast ? What was that ?
a premonition? No.
All these games have been pre-recorded before a live audience, just like our elections.
Occasionally, they screw up and release the results in advance ...
(FYI: Bumgarner comes out of the bullpen for 6 outs in game 7, followed by Casilla for the save.)
Remember their first year, with LOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Piniella? Manager Joe Shultz, of the fellow expansion scrap yard/junk heap Seattle Pilots, got the bone for Lou, shipped him off to KC, and Lou ended up the AL ROY following that 1969 season!!!
I AGREE..baseball is the best game of em all. so many different possibilities happening on plays..the defense has the ball..and, best of all, you cant run out the clock, or spike the ball etc...love baseball.
As a side benefit, you get more home games when the weather is nice.
” As a side benefit, you get more home games when the weather is nice. “
Nice-I never even thought of that.
.
Great post.
Go Royals!!!
Rush worked in the Royals sales department just prior to getting with a KC radio station. He had worked in radio as a kid as I recall.
In KC radio he came up with his idea for a show but couldn’t get them to do it. He went to Sacramento and the rest is history.
Interesting. Didn’t know about that. Would like to read that book about 1908 baseball sometime - sounds interesting and fun.
