Thanks for the update...naturally, there’s been nothing about Warner’s shrinking lead in the MSM here in Virgina; in my part of the state (Hampton Roads), political reporting usually consists of regurgitating Warner press releases, so the local media is making its in-kind contribution to the Senator’s campaign.

Still, I’ve got my doubts about Gillespie. I live in a Congressional district that is at least R+6 and the GOP effort has been lackluster, to say the least. The Republican Congressman is cruising towards re-election, but there has been no real effort to maximize the vote in a heavily Republican district.

If the Fairfax firewall is in trouble, Ed Gillespie has a chance. But, as you observe, he has to make the most of the time he has left. And I just don’t see it from his low-energy/no-energy campaign.

This is very premature, but I think Barbara Comstock may be the GOP’s next real hope of winning a Senate race in VA. None of the current GOP congressmen show any interest, and I think she could have very broad appeal.

Yeah I hear the same lackluster stuff about Gillespie too. And I’m sure its all true. But the washington post of all papers called the warner gillespie debate two mondays ago—the debate from hell.

It was after that the first reports of warners internals started imploding.

This election few dems are going to show up. Obama has tied himself to all the democrats running. This has severe consequences. His major constituencies like single women are feeling pretty antsy about their safety. Many anti war democrats will not be able to tell the difference between good obama bombs over iraq and syria and bad bush bombs over iraq. Black women will show up for Obama but likely fewer black men. Hard to say what hispanics will do but Obama’s numbers among them are down as they are with everyone else.

I’m in Northern Virginia. This is where Obama has to hold the state. This area is increasingly democrat. The democrat ground game is reported to be pretty strong. But there are so many liberals on tv tearing their clothes that even though gillespie is not an inspiring candidate — he could be swept into office by a wave. It wouldn’t even have to be a big wave to wash gillespie in because so few democrats will show up.

That’s my 2 cents. I’m usually an optimist.
