They are completely without the infrastructure to deal with something like Ebola in Belize. Their economy is almost entirely dependent upon tourism. An Ebola outbreak would destroy them economically.
While I question denying permission for the woman to be airlifted from the cruise ship to an airport in Belize in order to transfer her onto an awaiting air ambulance to return her to the US since there would be next to no contact with any domestic person and only moments to transfer her to the plane, I don’t question at all their strong reservations to the point of denying entry to those potentially exposed to Ebola.
Their PM did more right than wrong, imho. But, there will be political repercussions, no doubt in my mind about that.
Does Bammy get his Sta$h billed for these expenses of maintaining open borders?
How connected to reality are you?
Later tonight in breaking news, Channel 5 Belize reported that it has:
Confirmed with representatives of the Ministry of Health that they have indeed received a report that there is at least one passenger on board the cruise ship, Carnival Magic, showing symptoms similar to that of the Ebola virus. According to the report made to MOH, the person exhibiting the symptoms did not come ashore today. The ship is reportedly carrying 3652 passengers and a total population of 4633 persons.
If true, SOL.
Maybe we should all kick in for more liposuction on MooseShell......
Not really....
Supposedly a nurse in Nigeria not showing any symptoms gave Ebola to one of her patients. Somehow I think we can all agree the CDC has been lying their pants off to the public.
If the story on the Nigerian nurse is true and this hospital worker REALLY IS NOT SHOWING any symptoms they still have cause for concerns and a cruise ship is a disastrous place for this person to have been. Better know before docking if that ship needs to be quarantined.
BBbwwwwwwwwahhhaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwaaaaa
Hospital ships and quarantine ships are not without precedent. If the outbreak continues to spread in the developed world, it may very well come down to that. Carnival Magic is quite spacious, accommodating over 4,600 people for extended periods as it does, just saying. I wouldn’t be surprised if the disease continues to spread.
And RegulatorCountry went without sleep the past 96 hours to give us the hourly play-by-play.
I share in the horse laugh at John Kerry in general, but it certainly highlights the level of attention and alarm that this person on a cruise ship has warranted both domestically and abroad, which is completely at odds with the more recent and rather routine sounding reports.
Assuming that the sample was taken the day of admittance, today would be the 15th day. Many show symptoms from the 8th to 10th day.
I’m betting there are symptoms, there is no reason to have been trying to helicopter her off, and send a copter to take a blood sample unless there’s symptoms that I can think of.
Full hazmat gear with there own air supply, and decontamination afterward is what happens at research labs. I am 99.9% sure that the hospital lab didn’t have that.
So far the Dallas "outbreak" seems to be dying out.
We'll know in another 21 days....
Seems I’ve seen you active rather late, yourself. And, no, I’ve slept. I’ve been on a project deadline and have been pulling all-nighters for a few days and getting about four hours in during the late morning to early afternoon. I work better late, fewer distractions. Keeping a web browser open on the side is not hard to do on a 27” monitor. I should be done with the deadline project by early next week, so you can sleep then, lol.

I don’t read every story about every incident. The one that I read didn’t specify the sex of the technician.
Sources from Belize (multiple links on FR, at least one already on this thread courtesy FReeper shelayne( state that the passenger was symptomatic which is why they were contacted, some comments made on Twitter apparently by passengers appear to confirm.
Sources from the cruise line and the US say she’s asymptomatic.
Which do you believe, given all the excitement over trying to get this passenger to medical treatment? I’m going with Belize because of that, myself.
So far there are only a couple of new peeps involved per day in the Americas. Let’s hope that it only declines in rate....
Take care of yourself.
