The most conservative and liberal names in America are Doyle and Natasha.
Crowdpac, a nonpartisan group, focuses on how money and policy work in politics. The group scores all donors who have made two or more campaign contributions since 1980. Using that algorithm — and a cut-off of names with at least 1,000 donations made to avoid unusual names and outliers — Crowdpac built a tool to show how conservative or liberal first names are.
You can enter your name in this tool here.
(For example, “Katherine” is moderately liberal and people with this name are “less likely to contribute to a campaign than the average citizen.”)
Crowdpac also put together the top 20 conservative and liberal names in the country.
You’ll notice there is a very stark gender divide! The liberal names generally sound like a group of women in their late 20s; the conservative names sound like the members of a large bluegrass band from the 1930s. This makes sense: Women are more likely to be Democrats, for one thing, and the liberal names also generally represent younger Americans, while the conservative names generally skew older.
I know several Conservative Kates.
It’s obviously a dramatization. . Doyle is a an Irish last name, meaning dark outsider. Then all the Good O’l Boy names.
Doyle Brunson, the famed No Limit cash poker player is the only one I’ve ever met or heard about.
Bubba’s not a name it’s a nickname, a childhood mangling of “brother,” same as “Bud.”
The ranking was formed on the basis of political donations, so insufficient data.
Obama has a daughter named Natasha but everyone calls her Sasha.
“Where Bubba?”
Funny- that’s the same one I plugged in.
” 0 names are more conservative than Bubba “
True. VERY true. Hadn’t thought of that.
Lamar!?
How much did he pay to get his name on the conservative side of the list?
LoL
And those of us who blame the over empowerment of womyn are wrong?
I’ve never known anyone first-named Doyle. Strange.
I have, but he doesn't support the presumption of "conservative," he was a sort of big fish in a small pond Democrat. County politics.
The girls names don't make a lot of sense. I see nothing especially liberal about Kate, Katherine, Abigail, Abby, Meg, Jessica, etc. The only Roslyn I've ever known was a farm gal, very conservative. And the only Gabrielle I know is the daughter of Cuban refugees; I've never talked politics with her, but the type is generically, severely anti-communist.
I’m Doyle Strange, and I approve this message.
I had a dog named Buddy. Never knew how he voted, though.
Most of the men’s names on the conservative list end in “y”, the traditional diminutive form, which would indicate older men with a “good old boy” flavor.
I recently read about contemporary baby naming trends, as tabulated by the Social Security Administration, favoring boy names ending in “n” — Aiden, Jaden, Ethan, Mason, Jonathan, Logan, Ryan, Gavin, Jordan, Brandon, Justin, Kevin, etc.
Those names are in the Black Independence column... :-)
He vote Democratic... but he doesn’t know he voted.. :-)
Ah, yes. Reminds me that most pet dogs are Democrat! They sleep 20 hours a day wherever they can, have all their needs met by others who work to pay for their upkeep, and they don’t even pick up their own mess, which they offload wherever they please. Very interested in others’ rear ends and private parts, and don’t care who knows it; and when they’re bored, they either snarl and bark at something or hump someone. Yep, Democrats, all right!
