-— I was dating several different women at the time The Exorcist came out. Took each one to see it. Saw it 3 times. First was spooky, I got stoned and nodded off through most of the third time, LOL. -—

Supernatural movies scared the crap out of me well into my twenties. As a young teen in 1973, forget it. All I needed to hear was that people were puking in the theater. So I was shocked when my dad decided to go and see what all the hubub was about. When he came home he said, “Eh, it wasn’t that great.”

I don’t know. I still like the theme and the movie-making. Then there’s the eerie music and the poster image. There’s something different about it, like “Rosemary’s Baby” and the original “Night of the Living Dead.”

The original '68 black and white Night Of The Living Dead verges upon being an art flick due to the direction of George Romero. Excellent use of lighting, masterful with the medium of b&w. It's startling that the movie that inspired so very many schlocky horror films could be described in such a way, but that's one of the primary reasons if not the reason it's become such a cult classic.

It was a pretty scary movie the first time I saw it. But by the 3rd time the surprises had worn off. I was essentially desensitized.

A couple of years later I saw The Omen. Now that movie spooked me seriously for a couple of days. Creepily atmospheric. However, a re-watch of it years later made me wonder how it could have spooked me like it did.
