If you could 'See The Internet' Approaching your Laptop, would in come in Waves?, Circles?, Beams?

Categorize this as yet another question I have about personal computers, but am too embarrassed to ask anybody about till now. That is what I wonder. I hear the web described as a 'cloud', so I suppose it one way it exists is in the form of a massive activity ball of entertwined signals. Sometimes, I'm lucky, and my connection occurs almost immediately. Does it variate in intensity and speed as would radio waves, with consistant peaks and valleys?. I've begun to wonder if the net is being sent out in the form of linear beams, almost laser like in their straightness and concentration. Other times, my connection is sporadic, or more prone to fluctuation. It almost oozes into my cell phone. I know this sounds hopelessly unlearned, but it is a question I have. Knowing the various ways the net is sent out or received may help me to know the best way to position my phone or tablet or laptop in order to recieve these data more quickly.

He’s renting a room from me, so it’s an Honor System where we both benefit.

LOL. The “cloud” lololol. Anyways for poster, the internet is not a “cloud” of data. It’s just millions of computers all connected to one another.

Also, if you could see it, you wouldn’t be able to comprehend what you were seeing. There’s no way to even speculate on what it would look like. I like to think it looks like The Matrix through the eyes of Neo. The data travels on different mediums of transmission.

I see it coming in crests, like a breeze over powdered sugar on a huge sheet cake, maybe gingerbread. Airborne yet solid, delicious yet dangerous. White yet shadowed with dark. Peaks and valleys. Sugar like the best of powdered snow, soft and delicate yet crunchy underfoot. Pure texture.

But maybe that’s just me.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. I’m on drugs (post surgery).

So I guess my ham sandwich analogy for understanding the internet is pretty much shot.

Four and Twenty Blackbirds, baked in a PI,
When the PI was done, the birds began to sing..

Mutually beneficial arrangements are good. Unless one becomes a parasite and then paranoia sets in and they propose sharing your girlfriend and a war breaks out and... /kidding

Kevin Flynn: The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships? motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I’d never see. And then, one day...

7 Year Old Sam Flynn: You got in.

Kevin Flynn: That’s right, man. I got in.

That would be tantamount to ‘Cattle Rustling or Horse Stealing’, Not a petty offence at all!

I am sure the girls appreciate the significance of that. (some do, in the south)

To: lee martell; All

To the best of my knowledge, the different wireless communication devices (cell phone vs wi-fi for example) transmit data at different carrier frequencies and power levels. Note that the higher its carrier frequency, the more a carrier wave travels in a given direction like a light beam. The associated problem with higher carrier frequencies that they are weakened or stopped altogether by solid objects like light beams are.

Note that cell phones can adjust the power output of their transmitting carrier wave in response to receiving signals that are strong or weak.

I understand that the weakest of the data signals are bluetooth, domesticated to be used in close proximity to humans.

Antenna shapes, sticks versus dishes for example, also affect wave shape.

Corrections on any of the these points are welcome. I’ve studied basic physics but am not a technician.

I admit it’s an odd question, not something one would expect a grizzled 58 y/o man to be asking at the launch of a Weekend. But, there you are. Be thankful, Hot Tabasco, at least I didn’t ask ‘Can Electricity be measured by weight? or the classic; Why is the sky Blue?’

A decent portion of the net comes in a “plain, brown wrapper”, If you know what I mean..

Grin grin,
Wink wink,
Nudge nudge,
Say no more!
