MEDIA RELEASE - Aggravated Assault on Police OfficerOn Monday, October 20, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. Officers from the New Braunfels Police Department were dispatched to the 1800 block of Stonewall Street, for a family disturbance involving a handgun.
Upon arrival, a New Braunfels Police Officer spotlighted the front porch area of the residence in question, where the officer saw the suspect standing on the front porch. The suspect saw the officer and fired a handgun three times at the officer. The suspect then fled on foot behind the residence. A large search of the area utilizing a helicopter from the San Antonio Police Department as well as the New Braunfels Police Department SWAT and K-9 Units did not locate the suspect. The suspect has been identified as Richard Cantu Vasquez D.O.B 12/26/1996 of New Braunfels, TX. An arrest warrant for Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer has been issued for Vasquez arrest.
The officer at the scene was not injured in this incident. At this time we are developing evidence and further information. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Witnesses are urged not to make contact with the suspect.
