LOL! He was supposed to turn the water supply on. (It had been turned off to persuade Sally out of the shower.) Instead, he turned the gas off.

Like cats, my family members do not like to admit an incapacity. It would never have crossed his mind, when I said, “Turn the water back on in about ten minutes,” to say, “How do I do that?”

One of my definitions for doing something wrong, is doing something that you can't undo.

That's why the breaking of glass is a kind of minor sin in my book. (Noting, of course, that minor sins are not the only kind to be found in my books.)
