If there are Aliens living on Mars,they are keeping a very low profile for good reason.
Imagine that you are part of an advanced civilization that embraced Space travel Several millennia ago....Star Trek level is steam age....
Whilst cruising through an average part of an average galaxy ,thinking you are all alone in the universe, you stumble across transmissions from an unknown alien civilization.
After several years of viewing these transmissions as you approach, that Red Planet looks like a good place to hide behind and observe from a safe distance.
